Job Title: Phlebotomist - Scottsdale

Job Description

This phlebotomist position is based in a physician office in Scottsdale and focuses on drawing blood and processing specimens for patients, including those receiving cancer care. You will collect and receive biological specimens, accurately enter information into the laboratory information system, prepare samples for analytical testing, and ensure specimens reach the correct analytical areas. The role covers pre- and post-analytical aspects of testing and includes performing specified analytical tests as assigned while following established codes of conduct and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform venipuncture and other blood collection procedures on patients, including those with difficult veins and cancer patients, with a high level of accuracy, care, and professionalism.
  • Collect, label, and receive biological specimens in accordance with established procedures and safety protocols.
  • Accurately enter patient and specimen information into the company's computer and laboratory information systems.
  • Prepare specimens for analytical testing, including centrifugation, aliquoting, and proper storage or transport as required.
  • Distribute specimens to the appropriate analytical areas to ensure timely and accurate testing.
  • Perform specified analytical tests as assigned, following standard operating procedures and quality guidelines.
  • Manage pre-analytical tasks such as verifying patient identity, confirming test orders, and ensuring proper specimen collection and handling.
  • Manage post-analytical tasks such as ensuring proper documentation, handling of completed specimens, and communication with clinical staff as needed.
  • Work closely with medical assistants and physician office staff to coordinate patient flow and support high-quality patient care.
  • Provide compassionate, patient-centered care, especially when working with cancer patients and individuals who may be anxious or difficult draws.
  • Follow all codes of conduct, compliance standards, and safety regulations related to phlebotomy and laboratory operations.
  • Contribute as a cooperative team member, supporting colleagues and maintaining a positive, professional work environment.

Essential Skills

  • At least 1-2 years of phlebotomy experience, including experience with difficult draws.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in blood draws and venipuncture, with strong skills in working with cancer patients.
  • Experience in specimen processing, including receiving, labeling, preparing, and routing specimens.
  • Ability to accurately enter data into laboratory or clinical computer systems.
  • Knowledge of pre- and post-analytical processes in a laboratory or clinical setting.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Strong teamwork skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with medical assistants, physicians, and other clinical staff.
  • Commitment to patient care and comfort, especially in a cancer care environment.
  • Ability to consistently follow codes of conduct, safety standards, and laboratory protocols.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working in a physician office or outpatient clinic setting.
  • Prior experience in a cancer center, oncology or pediatric environment is preferred.
  • Comfort working with patients who may have challenging or difficult venous access.
  • Interest in career growth within a large healthcare and laboratory services organization.
  • Motivation to progress on a defined career ladder, including advancement opportunities such as phlebotomy technician level 2.
  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with patients and clinical staff.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills in handling multiple specimens and tasks.

Work Environment

This role is based in a physician office within a center with very difficult patients to draw such as pediatric or oncology patients in Scottsdale, operating Monday through Friday an 8 hour shift in between the hours of 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. You will work on-site, drawing blood from the physician's patients and collaborating closely with medical assistants and other clinic staff. The environment is clinical and patient-focused, with a steady flow of oncology and other patients requiring compassionate and precise care. You will use standard phlebotomy and laboratory equipment, including needles, collection tubes, specimen containers, and computer systems for order entry and tracking. The setting emphasizes professionalism, adherence to safety and infection control protocols, and a supportive culture that encourages internal growth and promotion. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $23.36/hr.
