Phlebotomist/ Specimen Processor (13-Week Contract)

Location: Marrero, LA
Schedule: Monday–Friday, Day Shift
Employment Type: 13-Week Contract
Pay Range: $20.00–$25.00/hour (based on experience)

About the Opportunity

Lighthouse Lab Services is partnering with a growing clinical laboratory seeking a detail-oriented Phlebotomist/ Specimen Processor to join their team on a 13-week contract assignment. This position is ideal for individuals who thrive in a fast-paced laboratory environment and are committed to maintaining specimen integrity while ensuring timely processing and shipment of patient samples.

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting daily laboratory operations by preparing specimens for testing, operating laboratory equipment, and coordinating outbound shipments to reference laboratories in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Responsibilities

  • Receive, accession, and verify incoming patient specimens for testing.
  • Centrifuge blood specimens according to established SOPs and quality standards.
  • Prepare specimens for testing while maintaining specimen integrity and proper identification.
  • Package and ship laboratory specimens to partner/reference laboratories in compliance with DOT, IATA, and laboratory shipping requirements (training provided if needed).
  • Ensure all specimens are processed within required turnaround times.
  • Document specimen processing activities accurately in the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory work environment.
  • Perform routine maintenance and quality checks on laboratory equipment as assigned.
  • Follow all laboratory safety policies, HIPAA regulations, and quality assurance procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with laboratory staff regarding specimen issues or discrepancies.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree in a science-related field preferred.
  • Previous experience in specimen processing, laboratory support, phlebotomy, or healthcare preferred.
  • Experience centrifuging blood specimens is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with laboratory safety practices and specimen handling procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize work in a high-volume laboratory environment.
  • Basic computer skills and experience with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) is a plus.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Louisiana State License for Phlebotomy
