Job Summary and Qualifications POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:Perform venous blood collection procedures competently with as little patient discomfort as possible.Perform blood culture collection procedures.Demonstrate knowledge of color top tube to use, volume of blood needed and test requirements.Identify the patient by comparing patient information on the requisition to the patient's identification band before venipuncture is performed.Dispose all sharps in a rigid sharp container.Follow standard precautions at all times.Monitor computer/labels/computer reports to ensure accurate collections.Registers patients' samples accurately to ensure appropriate billing.Collect pertinent insurance information.Answer any questions/phone calls pertaining to patient results.Prioritize STAT, scheduled and outpatient orders.Display courteous, professional manner towards patients, co-workers, nursing and medical staff.Assist physician offices with all laboratory needs.Maintains a clean working area.Clean and supply venipuncture trays.Periodically required to travel offsite for specimen pickup, phlebotomy or report delivery.Maintain patient/employee confidentiality and privacy at all times.Complete assigned duties efficiently and in a timely manner.Performs duties necessary to ensure quality in the department.Seek guidance and direction when necessary.Demonstrate the value of team concept on a consistent basis.Participate in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities.All other duties as assignedQUALIFICATIONS:Current BLS certification (or obtain prior to the completion of orientation)Basic computer skillsCommunication abilityPhlebotomy skills preferredOffsite travel requirements: valid driver's licensure, clean driving historyBenefits TriStar NorthCrest Medical Center, offers a total rewards package that supports the health, life, career and retirement of our colleagues.
