Job Description: Phlebotomist

Position Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws, including venipuncture and specimen collection
• Label, centrifuge, split, and store specimens according to established procedures
• Accurately record maintenance data and perform decontamination procedures
• Update and maintain patient information in system records
• Collect and store specimens in compliance with required protocols
• Clearly and professionally explain specimen collection procedures (blood, urine, fecal, etc.) to patients
• Demonstrate proper technique using straight needles and butterfly needles
• Review and fully understand physician orders prior to collection
• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes with 100% accuracy
• Verify all test requisitions and computer labels against orders to ensure accuracy
• Package specimens and prepare them for transport
• Store specimens at appropriate temperatures to maintain integrity
• Follow all OSHA and DEP safety regulations and compliance standards
• Attend required annual training sessions
• Answer phone calls and assist with lab-related inquiries, including communicating results when appropriate

Minimum Qualifications

• Valid Phlebotomy Certification (as required by state regulations)
• Minimum 6 months of experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting
• High School Diploma or GED
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
• 5-7 years of overall relevant experience

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $25.00/hr.
