Job Title: Phlebotomist

Job Description

This role offers an experienced phlebotomist the opportunity to provide high-quality patient care and skilled specimen collection within a busy diagnostic and clinical environment. You will deliver an excellent customer experience, perform accurate blood draws and specimen collections, and manage related computer and administrative tasks. The position requires at least 2 years of phlebotomy experience and has strong potential to transition from a temporary to a permanent role.

Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional customer service to every patient, maintaining a professional, respectful, and patient-focused approach at all times.
  • Perform blood collections by venipuncture and capillary techniques for patients across all age groups, with a primary focus on teen through geriatric populations.
  • Collect specimens for a variety of tests, including routine laboratory work, drug screens, paternity tests, alcohol tests, and other diagnostic studies as required.
  • Accurately perform data entry of patient information into computer systems in a timely manner, ensuring completeness and accuracy of all records.
  • Process billing information and collect payments when required, following established procedures and maintaining confidentiality.
  • Prepare collected specimens for testing and analysis, including proper labeling, handling, and processing according to laboratory protocols.
  • Maintain accurate patient and specimen information logs, ensuring all documentation is complete, organized, and compliant with regulatory standards.
  • Carry out administrative and clerical duties as necessary to support efficient operations, such as filing, documentation, and coordination of patient flow.
  • Travel to additional sites when needed to provide coverage and ensure continuity of service.
  • Work independently in a rheumatology office and diagnostic setting, managing daily workflow and prioritizing tasks without direct on-site supervision.
  • Handle a daily specimen volume of approximately 25-30 patients, particularly during busy morning hours, while maintaining accuracy and quality.
  • Collaborate professionally with physicians and clinical staff, supporting routine lab work and contributing to a positive, cooperative work environment.

Essential Skills

  • At least 2 years of phlebotomy experience in a clinical, laboratory, or diagnostic setting.
  • Proficiency in performing blood draws using venipuncture and capillary techniques for patients across multiple age groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to collect specimens for routine laboratory tests, drug screens, paternity tests, alcohol tests, and other diagnostic procedures.
  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to create a positive patient experience and communicate clearly and professionally.
  • Solid computer skills, including accurate and timely data entry of patient and billing information.
  • Ability to prepare, label, and process specimens for testing and analysis in accordance with laboratory protocols.
  • Experience maintaining patient and specimen logs and handling administrative and clerical duties related to phlebotomy services.
  • Capability to work independently with minimal supervision, managing workload and prioritizing tasks effectively.
  • Professional demeanor suitable for working within a healthcare and diagnostic environment.
  • Phlebotomy certification (where required by local regulations or as specified for the role).

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working in a laboratory or diagnostic company environment.
  • Experience in a rheumatology office or similar outpatient clinical setting.
  • Comfort working with teen through geriatric patient populations in a busy morning clinic environment.
  • Ability to handle a moderate daily patient volume (approximately 25-30 patients) while maintaining accuracy and composure.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills for managing logs, documentation, and billing information.
  • Effective interpersonal skills to collaborate with physicians and clinical staff in a professional manner.
  • Interest in a temporary role with potential to convert to a permanent position, depending on performance and business needs.

Work Environment

This role is based in a clinical and diagnostic setting, including work within a rheumatology office and a large, well-known diagnostic organization. You will typically work Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with the busiest hours in the mornings due to higher patient volume. The position involves working largely on your own at the site, so you will manage your own workflow and daily responsibilities without constant on-site supervision. You will use computer systems regularly for data entry, patient records, and billing, alongside standard phlebotomy and laboratory equipment for blood draws and specimen processing. The environment is professional and patient-focused, with physicians and staff who expect reliable, courteous collaboration. The role may require occasional travel to additional locations to provide coverage as needed.
