Job Title: Phlebotomist - WestlandJob Description

This phlebotomist position offers hands-on experience in an outpatient setting, focusing on high-volume blood collection, specimen processing, and packaging. The role involves coordinating daily with clinic staff to schedule blood draws and arrange the pickup and shipping of samples to a nearby medical testing facility. This is a part-time opportunity with a consistent weekly schedule and the option to work in both stationary and float assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Perform blood draws and collect patient samples, averaging approximately 25-30 venipunctures per day.
  • Accurately process specimens according to established procedures to ensure sample integrity.
  • Properly package samples for transport, following all relevant guidelines and protocols.
  • Communicate daily with clinic staff to organize and schedule blood draws.
  • Coordinate pickup and shipping of specimens to the designated medical testing site in Novi/Farmington.
  • Follow the correct order of draw and use the appropriate BD Vacutainer tube colors for multiple tube collections.
  • Maintain accurate records related to specimen collection, processing, and shipment.
  • Adhere to all clinical and laboratory safety standards and infection control practices.
  • Collaborate with onsite and offsite team members to support efficient clinic operations.
  • Provide professional, courteous interactions with patients and clinic staff in an outpatient environment.

Essential Skills

  • At least 6 months of experience as a Phlebotomist or Medical Assistant performing blood draws, specimen processing, and packaging.
  • Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant certification or completion of a relevant certificate program.
  • Documented experience performing 200 or more solo blood draws.
  • Proficiency in venipuncture techniques and specimen collection in an outpatient setting.
  • Ability to accurately describe and follow the correct order of draw.
  • Knowledge of BD Vacutainer order of draw tube colors for multiple tube collections.
  • Strong skills in specimen processing, labeling, and packaging for transport.
  • Effective communication skills for coordinating with clinic staff and team members.
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow established clinical and laboratory procedures.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent education.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working in outpatient clinics or similar healthcare environments.
  • Comfort working both in stationary roles at a single site and in float positions across multiple locations.
  • Ability to manage a moderate daily workload of blood draws while maintaining accuracy and patient care standards.
  • Reliability and commitment to consistent attendance, with flexibility to work the scheduled hours each week.
  • Strong organizational skills to coordinate scheduling, specimen processing, and shipment logistics.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal onsite supervision as well as collaboratively in small teams.

Work Environment

The role is based at an outpatient clinic located at 33611 Warren Rd, Westland, MI. The typical schedule is Monday and Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., totaling approximately 29 hours per week. Team members wear navy blue scrubs as standard attire. At the main facility in Farmington, there are about 15 people onsite, while individual offsite locations may have between 0-2 colleagues present, with offsite teams ranging from 0-3 people depending on the location. The environment provides strong hands-on phlebotomy experience in outpatient settings and offers both stationary and float positions. Raises are available at six months, and the work involves regular use of phlebotomy equipment, BD Vacutainer tubes, and standard specimen processing and packaging tools in a clinical setting.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Westland, MI.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $22.00/hr.
