Schedule: FT, 38.75 hrs. Monday - Friday, 8am - 4:30pm
Location: 5 Neponset St. Worcester, MA. Will be required to provide coverage approximately 1 - 2 days per week at 24 Newton St. Southborough, MA.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Performs therapeutic phlebotomies and complex Research study protocols. Participate in local inspections
- Collects blood samples using vacuum tube, standard safety collection needle, syringe, and micro collection techniques
- Enters data and maintains established inventory of phlebotomy supplies and equipment
- Prepares, processes, labels and stores specimens according to specimen integrity protocols for subsequent analysis by Clinical Laboratory staff at designated reference lab or others
- Provides technical guidance to interns assigned to work site
- May open and close any assigned site. Performs required protocols including start up, quality control, shut down, etc.
- Instructs patients in urine, stool, and other specimen collection procedures performed by the patient
- Verifies patient's identification and obtains specimens for diagnostic testing
- Ensures specimen tube(s) is labeled correctly
- Maintains proper sterile and aseptic techniques and required sterile field. Sets up sterile trays according to each procedure
- Ensures specimen integrity is not compromised during the pre-analytical phase by applying knowledge of tube additives, temperature requirements, and transport requirements
- Performs waived and moderate testing procedures and associated quality control. Reports results to provider, follows repeat/verification and validation procedure as applicable
- Performs EKGs following standard procedures. Transmits tracing to the computer-based system. Identifies potential abnormal tracing findings and reports to provider. Performs Holter Monitor testing
- Stocks and rotates supplies following standard procedures. Checks supplies and maintains draw stations at established par levels
- Ensures that expiration dates on tubes and reagents and are monitored and adhered to
- Communicates low stock level to designated staff
- Responds to Code Blue with EKG cart and performs tracing as needed
- Applies a working knowledge of Code Blue, Nurse Call and other emergency procedures and protocols as required
- Performs front desk duties and general clerical duties utilizing fax machines, copy machine, answers phone calls and directs messages, verifying demographic and insurance, etc.
- Maintains required activity logs as required by DPH or other regulatory agencies
- Records specimen refrigerator and freezer temperatures as required
- Triages stat, same day and routine patients and specimens following established protocols
- Maintains biohazardous waste disposal manifest for all departments at site and produces manifest documents to DPH inspector when requested
- Serve as student mentors as designated by Lead staff
- Enters laboratory results into electronic medical record system
- Successfully completes annual proficiency and competency testing programs
- Complies with health and safety requirements and with regulatory agencies such as DPH, etc.
- Complies with established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives
- Enhances professional growth and development through educational programs, seminars, etc.
- Attends a variety of meetings, conferences, and seminars as required or directed
- Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed including accepting assignment at alternate site and/or shift
- Regular, reliable and predicable attendance is required

Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma/GED
- 1+ years of phlebotomy, POCT, therapeutic phlebotomy, moderate complex
testing, and EKG experience - Basic level of proficiency with software products such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.
- Access to reliable transportation and valid US driver's license
Preferred Qualifications:
- Phlebotomy certification
- CPR certification
Soft Skills:
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
- Knowledge of Federal, State and CLIA requirements
- Demonstrated skills for geriatric, and infirm populations
Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The hourly pay for this role will range from $16 - $29 per hour based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
