The Photography Laboratory Technician provides operational and instructional support in the photography labs. Responsibilities include maintaining the day-to-day operations of both an analog and digital photography lab environment, along with a lighting studio. Duties include working with faculty to provide instructional support, holding open lab time for students, lab preparation and maintenance, inventory control, equipment checkout, maintaining compliance with material safety guidelines, and documenting standard operating procedures.
Essential Functions
Performs daily set-up, operation, and breakdown of classroom, darkroom, and studio environments. Ensures that all equipment is in good working condition and ready for instructional use. Prepares standard darkroom chemistry for instructional and open studio use. Maintains and monitors instructional supply needs and troubleshoots any inconsistencies associated with daily operational requirements.
Assists students with the use of the lab and studio equipment, computers, printers and software during open studio time. Monitors student compliance with safety and workflow processes to ensure proper protocols are followed. Supports students in the preparation, check-out, use, and breakdown of equipment.
Monitors inventory and makes purchase requests for lab supplies and equipment. Tracks stock levels, orders materials and equipment as directed, and coordinates hazardous waste pick-up. Maintains current SDS data sheets.
Maintains equipment to ensure it is in proper functional order to support photography curriculum. Organizes preventative maintenance schedules, repairs existing equipment where possible, and troubleshoots technical concerns.
