Description

This is an ongoing, as-needed post to create a pool of applicants. As department needs are identified, this pool will be reviewed periodically to obtain potential candidates.

The primary purpose of this position is to instruct curriculum-level physical education activity classes such as weight training, circuit training, walking for fitness, Pilates, yoga, and health. Classes include classroom instruction and activity supervision.

Examples of Duties

• Perform record-keeping functions in the areas of attendance and student performance in an accurate and timely manner.
• Review, grade, and provide appropriate feedback on student-submitted work in a timely fashion
• Prepare and deliver lesson plans to students in an online learning platform as well as at designated instructional location(s)
• Maintain mastery and currency in the fields of physical education to ensure continuity between course instruction and evidence-based practices.
• Ensure compliance and confidentiality with all policies and procedures of the College, NC Community College System, and applicable State and Federal agencies.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

Master's Degree from an accredited institution with a concentration in a Physical Education-related area and/or 18 graduate hours in physical education.

Experience

All applicants must provide verifiable and relevant professional experience in a workplace setting or a demonstrated instructional/teaching environment. Ideally, the candidate will have CPR certification and certifications related to the area of instruction, such as a personal training or weight training certification.

Skills and the Know-How

Current knowledge of a variety of health and wellness topics depends upon the activity class taught. The person filling this position must possess strong personal and professional integrity, good interpersonal skills, effective verbal and written communication skills, and a commitment to safety. Possess a student-centered mindset. Demonstrated proficiency using technology. College email and website, and other computer applications associated with the position.

The ability to perform all duties associated with the position including, but not limited to lifting, prolonged standing, sitting, bending, stooping, and operating or performing work with associated tools and machines.
