Angola High School is seeking an enthusiastic, student-centered Physical Education Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate is passionate about helping students develop lifelong habits of physical fitness, wellness, teamwork, and personal responsibility. We are looking for an educator who creates an engaging, inclusive, and positive learning environment where every student can experience success.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan and deliver engaging, standards-based physical education instruction aligned with Indiana Academic Standards.
- Create a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment that encourages participation from all students.
- Teach skills related to individual and team sports, fitness, health, lifetime recreational activities, and personal wellness.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs and abilities of all students.
- Assess student learning and provide timely, meaningful feedback to promote growth.
- Foster sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership, and respect among students.
- Maintain a safe and organized gymnasium, fitness center/weight room, locker rooms, and outdoor activity spaces.
- Monitor and maintain equipment to ensure student safety.
- Collaborate with colleagues to support student achievement and school improvement initiatives.
- Utilize technology to enhance instruction, monitor student progress, and communicate with students and families.
- Maintain accurate attendance, grades, and student records.
- Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and ongoing professional development.
- Support school activities and maintain a visible, positive presence within the school community.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Valid Indiana Teaching License with appropriate Physical Education certification.
- Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
- Commitment to continuous professional growth and collaboration.
- CPR, AED, and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Completion of Safe Hiring Solutions expanded background check, including the Department of Child Services index.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience teaching at the secondary level.
- Knowledge of fitness assessment, strength and conditioning, and wellness education.
- Ability to coach or sponsor extracurricular activities is preferred.
COMPENSATION
- Rate of Pay: To be determined based on experience according to the Master Contract
- Health, Dental, Vision, and Life Insurance Benefit-eligible position
- Indiana Teacher Retirement Fund Contribution-eligible position (Pension)
