POSITION SUMMARY

The Physical Education Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering a comprehensive physical education program that emphasizes movement, fitness, sportsmanship, and health education. This role includes monitoring student progress, maintaining accurate records, and collaborating with families and staff to support student success.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Prepare and organize gymnasium and equipment for daily instruction and school-year readiness
  • Develop and implement engaging, standards-aligned lesson plans that meet diverse student needs
  • Create a safe, structured, and inclusive environment that supports student development
  • Teach physical skills, movement patterns, fitness concepts, and health-related topics
  • Demonstrate activities and support students in skill development
  • Establish and enforce clear expectations for behavior and safety
  • Supervise students in the gym, playground, cafeteria, and school grounds
  • Conduct fitness assessments and monitor student progress
  • Maintain accurate student records, including progress reports and report cards
  • Communicate effectively with students, families, and staff
  • Participate in parent-teacher conferences and provide progress updates
  • Collaborate with specialists to support students with IEPs and 504 plans
  • Plan and coordinate school events such as Field Day and wellness activities
  • Maintain and monitor equipment, materials, and facilities
  • Participate in school-wide initiatives, committees, and required trainings
  • Prepare substitute lesson plans and maintain continuity of instruction
  • Support school safety procedures, including drills and emergency protocols
  • Assist with Early Childhood supervision and other school needs as required
  • Participate in community engagement and fitness-related initiatives as appropriate

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Physical Education or related field
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) strongly preferred
  • Experience working with elementary and/or middle school students preferred

REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

  • Current Wisconsin Teaching License (or ability to obtain)
  • Maintain all required certifications and trainings, including bloodborne pathogens

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Strong knowledge of physical education curriculum and instructional strategies
  • Understanding of diverse learning styles and student abilities
  • Ability to differentiate instruction and adapt activities to meet student needs
  • Effective classroom and behavior management skills
  • Strong communication skills with students, families, and staff
  • Ability to problem-solve and respond effectively to dynamic situations
  • Ability to maintain a positive, flexible, and professional demeanor
  • Basic proficiency with technology and educational software
