You’ll Drive the Mission By:
- Plans physical education program to promote development of students’ physical attributes and social skills.
- Teaches individual and team sports to students utilizing knowledge of sports techniques and of physical capabilities of students.
- Evaluates the fitness level of students; assists students develop and achieve fitness goals.
- Identifies and evaluates risk factors relative to various activities; monitors safety and requires safe behavior.
- Organizes, leads, instructs and referees indoor and outdoor games.
- Demonstrates cooperation and ethical participation.
- Selects, stores, orders, issues and inventories equipment, materials and supplies used in recreational program.
- Manages student behavior by adopting the prescribed discipline protocol system based on individual needs and the needs of the group.
- Maintains familiarity with Serendipity’s safety protocols and implements all required instruction, drills and procedures.
- Consults with students, teachers, Case Managers, and other staff to resolve student problems.
- Collaborates with staff regarding therapeutic goals for recreation for groups and individual students and regarding goals, criteria, strategies, protocols and interventions for students.
- Helps students reduce stress and anxiety through physical activity.
- Helps students build confidence and socialize effectively to enable greater independence.
- Reports to Program Director (or designated substitute) all suspicions of potential abuse, neglect, self-harm and/or endangerment of others.
- Establishes and maintains rapport with students characterized by professionalism and respect.
- Adapts interaction style for the needs of individual students.
- Provides constant supervision of students, particularly during transitions points in the school day (i.e. arrival, meals, breaks, restroom, etc.) in conjunction with other staff members.
- Performs crisis intervention and CPI approved physical management.
- Supports teaching staff by providing continual re-directing and positive reinforcement.
- Protects confidentiality of information related to students and families.
- Other duties may be assigned.
What Makes You Qualified?
- Education/experience: Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university, plus one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Certification/Licenses: Current Oregon Teaching License or current license from another state pending Oregon licensure; current CPI certification (can be obtained on the job).
- General Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of students or employees of an organization. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Computer Skills: General MS Windows and word-processing skills.
- Physical Demands: Frequently required to bend, reach, twist, jump, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must be able to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. The employee must occasionally perform physical management techniques on children. Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The employee may be exposed to assault by a student; the employee may occasionally be exposed to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but occasionally may be very loud.
