Physical Education Teacher - Soldiers Memorial Middle School

A middle school physical education teacher in Tennessee for grades 5-8 is responsible for delivering standards-based instruction that promotes physical literacy, fitness, and social-emotional growth.  

10 month position 

• Instructional Planning: Develop and execute lesson plans aligned with the Tennessee Physical Education Standards, covering motor skills, cognitive concepts, and fitness.
• Activity Facilitation: Lead diverse activities including individual and team sports, physical fitness routines, rhythms, and dance.
• Student Assessment: Monitor and document student progress using assessments like FitnessGram to track health-related fitness levels.
• Safety & Environment: Maintain a safe, inclusive learning environment by managing equipment and facility use and applying safety best practices.
• Collaboration: Participate in faculty meetings, communicate student progress to parents, and work with administrators to refine academic programs.
• Extracurricular Involvement: Often includes coaching athletic teams or facilitating community-building events.

• Education: A Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, or a related field from an accredited institution.
• Licensure: A valid Tennessee teaching license with an applicable endorsement 
• Testing: Successful completion of the Praxis II Physical Education: Content Knowledge exam.
• Physical Health: Must be in good physical health and capable of standing, walking, and demonstrating physical techniques.

• Instructional Leadership: Ability to manage large groups in gym or outdoor settings while maintaining student focus.
• Inclusion Expertise: Skill in adapting activities to accommodate various ability levels and learning styles.
• Communication: Strong interpersonal skills for connecting with diverse students, families, and stakeholders.
