Position Overview

St. Charles Hospital is seeking a Physiatrist (Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation physician) to join the Advanced Rehabilitation Medicine (ARM) physician practice in a part-time, 0.53 FTE position.

This role offers an opportunity to provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation services while helping expand access to specialized rehabilitation care throughout the community. The Physiatrist will support acute inpatient rehabilitation coverage, outpatient services, and on-call responsibilities, with opportunities to participate in concussion management, stroke rehabilitation follow-up, spasticity management, and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine/Therapy (OMM/OMT).

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide medical care and rehabilitation management for patients in the acute inpatient rehabilitation program.
  • Participate in scheduled inpatient and on-call coverage.
  • Provide outpatient PM&R consultations and follow-up care.
  • Evaluate and manage patients with concussions and other sports-related injuries.
  • Provide follow-up care for patients discharged from inpatient rehabilitation, including stroke patients and those requiring ongoing rehabilitation management.
  • Evaluate and manage spasticity, including the use of botulinum toxin injections when clinically appropriate.
  • Perform or support EMG services, as appropriate to training and experience.
  • Develop and expand OMM/OMT services within the PM&R practice.
  • Collaborate with physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, nurses, physicians, and other members of the rehabilitation team.
  • Participate in physician coverage during scheduled vacations and other absences.
  • Support continuity of care between inpatient rehabilitation and outpatient services.
  • Participate in the education and clinical training of PM&R residents.
  • Contribute to departmental quality improvement, research, and academic initiatives as appropriate.

 Clinical Opportunities

  • The position provides an opportunity to help expand several areas of the ARM practice, including:
  • Concussion Management: Expand access for patients referred for concussion evaluation and follow-up.
  • Stroke Rehabilitation: Provide outpatient follow-up for patients discharged from the inpatient rehabilitation program.
  • Spasticity Management: Provide ongoing management, including botulinum toxin therapy when indicated.
  • OMM/OMT: Help develop and expand osteopathic manipulation services.
  • Inpatient Rehabilitation: Provide additional physician coverage for the acute inpatient rehabilitation program.
  • Resident Education: Participate in the education and mentorship of PM&R residents.

Qualifications

  • Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) or Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Completion of an accredited Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation residency program.
  • Board certification or board eligibility in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
  • Current medical license in New York State or eligibility for licensure.
  • DEA registration or eligibility, as applicable.
  • BLS/ACLS certification as required.
  • Excellent clinical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary rehabilitation team.

Schedule

  • Part-time: 0.53 FTE
  • Inpatient and outpatient responsibilities.
  • Participation in scheduled and on-call coverage is required.
  • Specific schedule and call expectations will be discussed during the interview process.

 

This position offers the opportunity to join an established Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation practice and contribute to the continued growth of rehabilitation services at St. Charles Hospital. The successful candidate will play an important role in improving access to outpatient PM&R services, supporting continuity of care for rehabilitation patients, and contributing to the education of PM&R residents.

Posted Salary Range: Starting from USD $150,000.00/Yr.
