    Job Summary

    Owensboro Community and Technical College (OCTC) invites applications for a full-time Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) Program Director/Instructor in the Business, Health & Public Service Department. As the leader of a new PTA program, the Program Director will work with academic leadership to oversee its development and launch and lead the program through the initial Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) accreditation process. The Program Director provides academic and administrative leadership for the PTA Program, with responsibility for program communication, assessment and planning, budget management, curriculum oversight, student advising and instruction, faculty leadership, clinical partnership development, continuous quality improvement, and ensuring ongoing compliance with CAPTE accreditation requirements. The position is responsible for fostering a high-quality educational program that prepares graduates for successful entry-level practice as physical therapist assistants.

    Job Duties:

    • Serve as Program Director for the Physical Therapist Assistant Program.
    • Lead the program through the initial accreditation process following CAPTE guidelines and requirements for successful program launch.
    • Maintain compliance with current Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) current accreditation standards, policies, procedures, reporting requirements, and Rules of Practice and Procedure.
    • Provide leadership in program planning, assessment, budgeting, curriculum development, and continuous quality improvement.
    • Teach PTA courses in classroom, laboratory, and/or clinical settings according to program, institutional, professional, and accreditation standards.
    • Coordinate program assessment activities and monitor student, graduate, licensure, and employment outcomes; use findings to guide program improvement.
    • Develop and maintain effective relationships and communication with clinical education sites, clinical education faculty, employers, advisory committee members, and community partners.
    • Participate in student recruitment, admissions, retention, and graduation activities.
    • Maintain current knowledge of contemporary physical therapy practice, educational methodologies, and accreditation standards.
    • Participate in college committees, professional development activities, and institutional initiatives.
    • Promote a supportive learning environment that fosters student success.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Master's degree or higher from an accredited institution.
    • Physical Therapist (PT) or Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) with an active, unencumbered license or certification in any United States jurisdiction.
    • Minimum of five (5) years (or equivalent), full-time, post-licensure experience, including at least three (3) years (or equivalent) of full-time clinical experience.
    • Experience in classroom, laboratory, clinical, and/or professional teaching.
    • Experience in administration, management, and leadership.
    • Documented professional development or education in all four CAPTE-required content areas: educational theory and methodology, instructional design, student evaluation, and outcome assessment (a minimum of 60 contact hours).  

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT).
    • Prior experience with CAPTE accreditation, self-study, substantive change, annual reporting, or program assessment processes.
    • Demonstrated experience in curriculum design and evaluation, strategic planning, faculty development, budget/resource management, and clinical education partnerships.
