Position Summary

Uvalde Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center is seeking a compassionate and motivated Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) to join our rehabilitation team on a per diem basis.

The Physical Therapist Assistant will work under the direction and supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist to provide high-quality therapeutic services to residents. The ideal candidate is dependable, compassionate, and committed to helping residents improve their mobility, strength, independence, and overall quality of life.

Responsibilities

• Provide physical therapy treatments and interventions under the direction of a licensed Physical Therapist.
• Assist residents with therapeutic exercises, functional mobility, transfers, gait training, balance activities, and other prescribed interventions.
• Implement individualized treatment plans established by the Physical Therapist.
• Monitor residents' responses to treatment and communicate progress, concerns, and changes in condition to the supervising Physical Therapist and nursing team.
• Document treatments, resident progress, and other required information accurately and timely.
• Encourage residents and provide positive reinforcement throughout therapy sessions.
• Promote resident safety during all therapeutic activities and transfers.
• Collaborate with nursing staff, therapy team members, physicians, residents, and families as appropriate.
• Follow facility policies, infection-control procedures, safety standards, and applicable state and federal regulations.
• Maintain professional and respectful relationships with residents, families, and coworkers.
• Participate in interdisciplinary care planning and communicate effectively with the healthcare team.

Qualifications

• Current Physical Therapist Assistant license in the State of Texas.
• Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program.
• Current CPR certification, if required by facility policy.
• Previous experience in skilled nursing, rehabilitation, long-term care, or a similar healthcare setting is preferred.
• Strong communication, organization, and documentation skills.
• Compassionate and resident-focused approach to care.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with the therapy and nursing teams.
• Dependable and flexible availability consistent with per diem scheduling needs.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and assist residents with transfers and mobility.
• Ability to safely perform physical therapy activities and assist residents as needed.
• Ability to maintain appropriate safety precautions during treatment sessions.
