Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA)

Support Healing Through Compassionate Care

We are seeking a dedicated and caring Physical Therapy Assistant to join our hospital rehabilitation team. In this role, you will work closely with Physical Therapists and other healthcare professionals to help patients recover from injury or illness, restore function, reduce pain, and improve overall mobility and independence. This position is ideal for someone who values teamwork, patient-centered care, and making a meaningful difference every day.


Position Summary

The Physical Therapy Assistant provides medically prescribed physical therapy treatments under the direction and supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist. Care is delivered to patients experiencing musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, cardiovascular, and integumentary conditions. The PTA plays a vital role in helping patients achieve their rehabilitation goals while supporting safe, effective, and compassionate care in a hospital setting.


Key Responsibilities

  • Review established physical therapy goals, patient conditions, and medical records to deliver appropriate treatments

  • Perform physical therapy interventions within the scope of PTA practice and under the supervision of a Physical Therapist

  • Measure and document patient strength, motor skills, functional capacity, and tolerance to treatment

  • Monitor patient responses to therapy and communicate progress or concerns to the supervising Physical Therapist

  • Adjust treatment approaches as directed to ensure optimal patient outcomes

  • Educate patients and caregivers on therapeutic activities and home exercise programs

  • Accurately document treatments, patient responses, and progress in electronic or paper medical records

  • Collaborate with Physical Therapists and other members of the care team to coordinate comprehensive patient care

  • Participate in departmental meetings, in-services, and continuing education opportunities

  • Support clinic and department operations by assisting with assigned responsibilities

  • Participate in outreach, marketing, or community events as needed


Education & Experience

  • Associate's degree from an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant program required

  • One to two years of related experience or clinical training preferred


Licensure / Certification

  • Current Physical Therapy Assistant license with the Kansas State Board required

  • License must be displayed as required by regulation


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to read and interpret medical documentation and treatment plans

  • Strong communication skills for interacting with patients, families, physicians, and regulatory agencies

  • Basic math and reasoning skills to support treatment planning and documentation

  • Proficiency with basic computer applications, including electronic documentation and scheduling systems


Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

  • Moderate noise level typical of a hospital or clinical environment

  • May require occasional travel between facilities to support patient care needs

  • Regularly requires standing, walking, bending, lifting, and assisting patients with mobility

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 70 pounds occasionally

  • Ability to perform close and peripheral vision tasks and work at a computer for extended periods
