Job Overview: The Physical Therapy Assistant supports physical therapists in delivering high-quality rehabilitative care to patients (SMSC Community members and their families, SMSC employees and their families, and Native Americans living in Scott County) recovering from injuries, surgeries, and physical conditions.  This role involves implementing treatment plans, guiding patients through therapeutic exercises, monitoring progress, and documenting outcomes in accordance with professional and regulatory standards. The PTA helps educate patients and families on home exercise programs and safe mobility techniques, ensuring continuity of care. 

Create Your Path: The Work You’ll Do:

  • Provides therapeutic treatment in accordance with the patient’s established plan of care with a focus on functional and measurable outcomes.
  • Guide patients through prescribed exercises and activities to improve mobility, strength and balance and educate patients on home exercise programs.
  • Set up therapy equipment and treatment areas, ensuring all devices and supplies are calibrated, clean and ready for patient sessions.
  • Monitors patient’s progress and report any changes to the Physical Therapist
  • Accurately record patient treatment details, progress and any adjustments made during therapy sessions in the medical record.
  • Work in conjunction with physical therapists, occupational therapists and other healthcare professionals to coordinate a comprehensive approach to patient care.

Job Requirements:

  • Successful completion of an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant Program
  • Must be currently licensed as a Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant by and in good standing with the Minnesota Board of Physical Therapy.
  • Good computer skills to include MS Word, Excel, and Outlook, as well as other business-related software as needed.
  • Experience working with Electronic Health Records.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  •  Ability to work well in a team environment.
  •  Must hold and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification. If not CPR certified upon hire, must obtain certification within 90 days of employment.
  •  Valid Class D driver’s license required with good driving record and reasonable transportation.
  •  This position is subject to testing for drugs (THC included) & alcohol in accordance with the Federal Department of Transportation Regulations as well as the SMSC's Drug/THC and Alcohol Policy.
