Job Goal: CESA 10 is seeking a Physical Therapy Assistant in our Special Education and Pupil Services Department. Physical Therapist Assistants provide school-based physical services under the supervision of a Physical Therapist. School-based physical therapy is a related service determined by the IEP team, which includes the Physical Therapist and Physical Therapist Assistant. The Physical Therapist Assistant carries out interventions as outlined in the IEP and intervention plan, in collaboration with other IEP team members, to promote a student's ability to safely and independently move or travel in order to participate in school-related activities (classrooms, stairs, elevators, hallways, restrooms, lunchrooms, playground, transport). School-based physical therapy may provide training to school personnel, parents, and caregivers to facilitate achievement of the child's specific educational and functional goals.

Employment Status: This is a full-time, school-year (190-day) position.

Compensation and Benefits: Compensation is negotiable. Benefits are as defined in the CESA 10 Employee Handbook.

Position Qualifications:

  1. Education, Training, Experience:

a. Completion of a Physical Therapy Assistant associate degree program accredited by the American Physical Therapy Association

b. Current Physical Therapy Assistant license from the State of Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services

c. Current Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction license

d. Current certification in CPR and First Aid

e. Two years of experience in pediatric or school-based physical therapy preferred

  1. Related Skills:

a. Possess a valid driver's license

b. Ability to travel to contracted district(s)

c. Ability to work during non-standard work hours

Performance Responsibilities:

  1. Implement an intervention plan that the Physical Therapist has written, consistent with the IEP. The child's progress reporting is provided consistently with the IEP and in collaboration with the teacher (for ages 3-21).

  2. Participate in meetings as a member of the IEP team, as a member of the therapy staff (required staff meetings), and required CESA 10 meetings.

  3. Participate in the development of IEPs as needed, help determine if therapy services are necessary, and provide IEP-related service information for IEP development.

  4. Communicate with the IEP team on a consistent basis to collaborate and plan for the child's needs and progress.

  5. Integrate services into the child's natural environments and typical routines/activities in collaboration with other team members. The intervention model embeds services within typical school, family, or community environments and activities and rarely uses a "pull-out" model.

  6. Travel to provide services in locations consistent with the IEP. Provide timely documentation/billing information for services provided. Billing and related documentation are completed within seven days of the "end of the month" cycle. Monthly attendance and expenses are documented on an accounting form.

  7. Move and handle children and equipment as detailed in the Physical Demands section of this job description.

  8. Provide timely information and response to the Executive Director of Special Education & Pupil Services as requested.

  9. Adhere to the ethical standards of the profession and participate in professional growth activities and continuing education opportunities. Adhere to established rules, regulations, and laws and work cooperatively to accomplish the goals and objectives of the local education agency.

  10. Assist with maintenance, inventory, and ordering of equipment.

  11. Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands: The physical demands of this position are outlined in the Position Specific Physical Demands and Environment Factors Sheet.
