Job Summary

The Lead Physician Assistant provides exceptional clinical care while leading the physician assistant team. This role functions under the direction of a supervising physician to gather data, determine care plans, and perform therapeutic procedures. The lead also manages team schedules, departmental pay practices, and clinical workflows. Oversee daily duties of the mid-level practitioners. Perform daily and monthly scheduling of practitioners, weekend schedules and PTO. Ensure proper mid-level support coverage for physicians. Work with the Medical Director, Associate Administrator, and Nurse Manager on a routine basis for optimal services to CAMC and patients, to include Evidence Based Care.

Responsibilities

  • Screen patients to determine the urgency of medical attention.
  • Review patient records thoroughly to assess overall health status.
  • Take detailed histories and conduct physical examinations.
  • Record pertinent data accurately in electronic health records.
  • Identify normal and abnormal findings in histories and lab studies.
  • Prepare concise summaries regarding patient care and progress.
  • Make independent decisions regarding data gathering and patient management.
  • Manage initial evaluations and follow-up visits for stable conditions.
  • Order diagnostic tests including common laboratory and radiological studies.
  • Initiate emergency management for cardiac arrest, hemorrhage, or respiratory distress.
  • Apply deep knowledge of anatomy, pharmacology, and medical terminology daily.
  • Supervise PA staff to ensure clinical compliance and high-quality care.
  • Manage team schedules including shift work, overtime, and on-call rotations.
  • Enforce pay practices and departmental policies across the advanced practice team.
  • Act as liaison between the physician assistant team and medical leadership

The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department's identified patient ages. Specifically the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients.

Education

  • Master's Degree (Required) Experience: 1 year Experience in the area of clinical specialty
