Job Summary

Collaborate with physicians in providing diagnostic and therapeutic services for Cross-sectional radiology.

The Troy Medical Campus will be University of Michigan Health's first clinical presence in the Oakland County market. We are building a state-of-the-art specialty care campus in the heart of Troy where a deeply human commitment to personalized care will come together with world-class expertise, cutting-edge therapies, and a legacy of more than 175 years of transformative research to help patients and families in Oakland County and beyond find their Michigan Answers. The campus will feature two outpatient facilities with over a dozen specialty programs, including Cancer services, Musculoskeletal/Sports Medicine, and Reproductive Medicine, as well as a surgery/procedure center, comprehensive imaging services, laboratory, pharmacy, and therapy services. The campus is conveniently located near I-75, surrounded by popular shopping and dining, and features free parking, on-site cafe, with facilities committed to sustainable, environmentally responsible practices.

Responsibilities*

Primary Goals

• Coordinate activities of the cross-sectional interventional radiology division: review of all interventional case requests, pre-procedure, intra-procedural, and post procedure patient care, and maintenance of joint CT and ultrasound interventional procedure schedules.
• Provide telephone triage and case evaluation for referring services, patients, and families, including screening for appropriateness of procedure.
• Patient evaluation and consent prior to interventional procedures: biopsies, fluid aspirations, drain placements, ablation, thrombin injections, botulism toxin injection, or other US or CT image-guided procedures.
• Performing a history and physical examination on patients prior to procedures or on a follow up basis as needed.
• Independently perform image-guided procedures such as but not limited to: fluid aspirations, abdominal/pelvic drain placement or removal, fine-needle and core abdominal/pelvic biopsies, thrombin injections, Botox injections, or other procedures as directed by physician.
• Assist/first assist physician in all interventional procedures, including intraoperative ablations. May involve suturing catheters, and skin/wound closure.
• Prep and drape patients and assist with setup for procedures.
• Write pre and post procedure notes and orders on all patients.
• Communicate with ancillary staff about patient care
• Responsible for patient education of outpatient care of abdominal/pelvic drains. This may involve patients, family members or other caregivers.
• Make follow-up telephone calls post-procedure.
• Triage or answer questions regarding post-procedure complications from patients or family members.
• Injection of drain catheters, as needed for assessment of drain patency, and fluid collection size.
• Assist in developing patient education materials related to interventional procedures.
• Coordinate outpatient discharge and write orders as needed.
• Work closely with cross-sectional interventional faculty for continual assessment and revision of interventional practices as needed.
• Potential to assist with clinical research projects involving patient outcome.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• This position requires moderate standing/walking, as well as lifting, positioning, pushing, and/or transferring of patients.

Required Qualifications*

• Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Michigan.
• Satisfactory completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or one of its predecessor agencies, CAHEA or CAAHEP.
• Certification by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
• State of Michigan Controlled Substance License
• DEA registration
• AHA Approved BLS
• ACLS
• 3 years of experience as a Physician Assistant caring for adult patients
• 2 years of PA experience in primary role as a proceduralist (or) 2 years of PA experience primary role surgical operating room

Desired Qualifications*

• CT/Ultrasound guided FNA/biopsy or drain placement strongly preferred.
• Demonstration of excellence in communication

Modes of Work

Work Schedule

30 hours per week.

Location: Troy Medical Campus - Forbes Imaging Center. Onboarding time may require training in Ann Arbor, Brighton, and/or Northville locations.

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Physician Assistants of Michigan Medicine (UPAMM), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.
