Position Summary: Works with Physicians in providing an appropriate evaluation, assessment, and treatment plan for patients. Provides treatment to patients in the form of minor procedures and orders relevant tests in order to appropriately diagnose patient conditions. Informs patients and their families of best practices in maintaining health and explains the nature of their conditions.
Critical Tasks:
- Performs physical examinations and obtains medical history in order to present relevant data to the physician.
- Orders and interprets tests such as x-rays, MRIs, and lab tests as needed.
- Conducts preliminary diagnoses and treats patients as required.
- Performs minor procedures such as casting, splinting, joint injections, and trigger point injections in order to deliver efficient patient care.
- Counsels patients and families on health maintenance and the nature of their conditions.
- Provides follow-up care to patients and assists in providing referrals to relevant specialists as needed.
- Supervises the work of accompanying medical assistants in order to ensure optimal patient care, effective training, and efficient workflow.
- Documents case evaluations and provides statistical and qualitative summaries of services provided.
- Performs other job-related activities as requested.
Required Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program from a university or college.
- Current and valid Arizona State Board of Medical Examiners license to practice as a Physician Assistant.
- 2 years of experience prior medical environment work experience preferred.
- Current and continuing BLS training and certifications.
- Demonstrates ability to relate to diverse cultures and specifically the Gila River Community and/or other Native American cultures and community health services.
