Overview:

The Physician Assistant (PA) delivers comprehensive care for pediatric patients in the Randall's Children Hospital Plastic Surgery program and supports select adult cosmetic surgery services. Working in collaboration with the plastic surgeon and the interdisciplinary care team, the PA is involved in evaluating, treating, and managing patients across the continuum of care, including outpatient clinics, surgical procedures, and postoperative follow-up.

 

Responsibilities include patient assessments, treatment planning, operating room assistance, minor procedures, patient and family education, care coordination, and post-surgical recovery management. The PA will care for a range of pediatric plastic and reconstructive conditions while also supporting the plastic surgeon with select adult cosmetic consultations and procedures as appropriate.

This role plays an important part in improving patient access, strengthening continuity of care, supporting surgical efficiency, and delivering high-quality, family-centered care within a growing pediatric plastic surgery practice. 

Responsibilities:
  • Pediatric plastic and reconstructive surgery - comprehensive clinic visits, appointments and consultations. 
  • Preoperative and postoperative patient and family management
  • Support in the operating room - scrubbed in - as deemed necessary by the plastic surgeon.
  • Minor office-based procedures
  • Patient and family education
  • Care coordination across inpatient and outpatient settings
  • Select adult cosmetic surgery consultations and follow-up care - such as, MOHS procedures, etc. 
Qualifications:
  • Recommended 1-2 years of experience in surgical subspecialties such as orthopedic, trauma, vascular, or general surgery. (New graduates and experienced candidates with relevant orthopedic clinical rotations may be considered.)
  • Surgical assisting experience required.
  • Knowledge of acute and chronic disease states, administration and prescription of medications, and delivering physical care following a treatment plan.
Licensure:

Education and Licensure:

  • Requires Bachelor’s degree and successful completion of a physician assistant program accredited by any of the following accrediting bodies:
    • Committee on Allied Health, Education Accreditation of the American Medical Association (CAHEA).
    • Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).
    • Accreditation Review Commission on the Education of the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA).
  • Current Oregon State PA license.
