Job Summary – Correctional Health
The Physician provides high-quality medical care to individuals housed in the Harris County Jail in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment. Responsibilities include performing intake health assessments, managing urgent care issues, diagnosing and treating chronic conditions, and collaborating with advanced practice providers.

This role works closely with nursing staff, correctional officers, and on-site services including radiology, pharmacy, nutrition, dental, and laboratory services. The Physician may coordinate with the Harris Health Transfer Center or local hospitals when a higher level of care is required, ensuring compliance with all regulatory and accreditation standards.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)

  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Emergency Medicine

  • Must obtain board certification before board eligibility expires

Licensure & Certification:

  • Valid Texas Medical License

  • Active DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) License

Work Experience:

  • Completion of an ACGME-accredited 3- or 4-year residency program

Communication Skills:

  • Above Average Verbal Communication (Heavy Public Contact)

  • Exceptional Verbal (Public Speaking)

  • Writing / Correspondence

  • Writing / Reports

Proficiencies:
