This position is in the Medicine Service at the C.W. Bill Young VA Medical Center. The duties and responsibilities are carried out throughout the medical center including all clinical and patient care areas involved within the service. The Section Chief is responsible for the provision of services within their section.

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP).

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

Recruitment /Relocation Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): Not Authorized

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases

Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)

Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA

Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory

The Section Chief is responsible for the day-to-day operation of their assigned section(s). This includes, leadership, supervision, program management, clinical operations, education, and strategic planning. The overall responsibilities of the Section Chief typically include but are not limited to:

  • Ensure that high quality patient care is delivered with focus on evidence-based practice and clinical guidelines.
  • Ensure that the section has productivity within acceptable VA standards
  • Ensure resources are used efficiently to focus on providing access to care.
  • Promote the development of health care professionals through counseling, mentoring, teaching, and encouraging self-assessment. Monitor and promote compliance with appropriate regulations, professional standards, and ethical conduct.
  • Work with Service Chief to ensure that the facility programs reflect the mission and priorities of the VHA and VA as well as take an active participatory role as a leadership team member, providing counsel in defining and accomplishing the health system's mission and goals
  • Maintain active participation and affiliation with medical and allied health schools as part of the education and training mission of VHA.

Work Schedule: Monday- Friday 8:00am- 4:30pm

Preferred Experience: VA and/or Non-VA Supervisory experience highly preferred.
