Position Location: This role is based at the Family Clinic in Fort Gregg-Adams, VA. The clinic is situated just three miles east of Petersburg, Virginia, 116 miles from Washington D.C., and 21 miles from Richmond, the capital of Virginia. Responsibilities

As a Family Practice Physician, your responsibilities will encompass, but are not limited to:

  • Conducting examinations of active duty personnel, family members, and other authorized beneficiaries to identify diseases and medical conditions.
  • Providing appropriate care or referring cases that require hospitalization or specialized treatment.
  • Performing various procedures, which may include vasectomies, simple fracture reductions, lumbar punctures, emergency deliveries, endometrial biopsies, joint aspirations/injections, and procto-sigmoidoscopies.
  • Assessing physical requirements and executing physical examinations for different categories of military and civilian personnel.
  • Supervising medical students, externs, residents, and other non-professional healthcare providers as necessary.
Qualifications

Basic Requirements for Supervisory Physician (Family Practice):

Degree: Candidates must possess a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy from a recognized institution in the United States or Canada. Alternatively, a Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school may be accepted if it is substantially equivalent to accredited U.S. schools, as demonstrated by permanent certification from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) or a fifth pathway certificate for U.S. citizens who completed premedical education domestically and graduate education abroad.

Graduate Training: Following the attainment of a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy degree, candidates should have at least one year of supervised clinical experience, which can be fulfilled through a one-year internship or the first year of a residency program accredited for such training.

Licensure/Certification: Applicants must hold a permanent, full, and unrestricted medical license to practice in a state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a U.S. territory.

Experience Required for GP-14: Experience encompasses both paid and unpaid roles, including volunteer work through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). All qualifying experience, including volunteer work, will be credited. To qualify based on experience, your resume must detail at least four years of residency training in the relevant specialty or equivalent experience and training in Family Practice. This required experience should include a comprehensive range of medical duties focused on patient care for individuals of all ages, including advanced examination, diagnosis, and treatment to ensure effective care post-discharge.
