Physician - GEC Hospice and Palliative Care The Veterans Health Administration is seeking a full-time Physician specializing in Hospice and Palliative Care for the Togus VA Medical Center in Togus, ME. This position is part of the Geriatrics and Extended Care program and supports an integrated inpatient and outpatient Hospice and Palliative Care program. The physician works closely with the Hospice and Palliative Care Medical Director, Nurse Practitioner, Hospice Unit Nurse Manager, RN Coordinator, Social Worker, Chaplain, and other clinical team members to provide compassionate care to Veterans with serious illness and end-of-life care needs. Location: Togus, ME Vacancies: 1 Salary: $200,000 - $315,000 per year Salary Note: Education and length of practice are considered through a formal pay-setting process to determine final compensable salary, including base pay and market pay. Care for patients in the 12-bed Hospice and Palliative Care unit. Participate in the Hospice on-call program. Provide inpatient consultative services in acute hospital and long-term care areas. Provide outpatient consultative services in geriatric and specialty care clinics. Provide telemedicine consultative services for patients unable to travel to Augusta. Manage patients receiving hospice home care. Work closely with the Palliative Care Team, including the Medical Director, Nurse Practitioner, Hospice Unit Nurse Manager, RN Coordinator, Social Worker, and Chaplain. Supervise and train Hospice and Palliative Care fellows in collaboration with Maine Medical Center. Support compassionate, patient-centered care for Veterans with serious illness and end-of-life care needs. Basic Qualifications: Must be a U.S. Citizen. Non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited in accordance with VA policy. Must be proficient in written and spoken English. Must have a Doctor of Medicine degree or an equivalent degree in allopathic or osteopathic medicine from an approved school. Must have a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia. Must have completed approved residency training in an accredited core specialty program leading to eligibility for board certification, or otherwise meet VA physician residency requirements. Must have board certification in Hospice and Palliative Care. Must pass a background/security investigation. Must pass a pre-employment physical examination. Drug testing is required for this position. Selective Service registration is required for males born after December 31, 1959. Must complete all application requirements and online onboarding requirements. Must participate in the seasonal influenza vaccination program as required for VA health care personnel. May be required to serve a probationary period. Education and Licensure Requirements: Degree must be from a school of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education, a school of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation, or a qualifying foreign medical school meeting ECFMG eligibility requirements for the year of graduation. One full and unrestricted license from any U.S. State or territory is accepted for VA physician practice. Applicants pending completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected, but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
