Opportunity:

Physician (MD) - Internal Medicine - Gastroenterology

Job Details:

• Provide locum tenens gastroenterology coverage on a Monday through Friday schedule
• 
  
• Perform scheduled colonoscopies and visit inpatient consults from the night before
• 
  
• Conduct additional GI lab procedures in the GI suite following scheduled procedures as needed
• 
  
• See 5-7 patient encounters per shift
• 
  
• Work alongside 2 NPs and 1 PA-C who will handle pre and post workups on patients needing scopes
• 
  
• Board certification required; minimum certification level: Certified
• 
  
• Fellowship required (3 years)
• 
  
• Required certifications: ABLS, ACLS, ATLS, BLS
• 
  
• Required specialty skills include:
  • Upper GI endoscopy with biopsy, foreign body removal, fulguration of bleeder, and injection of varices
  • 
    
  • ERCP - both diagnostic and therapeutic
  • 
    
  • PEG (percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy)
  • 
    
  • Esophageal dilatation/manometry and esophageal manometry interpretation
  • 
    
  • Small bowel biopsy
  • 
    
  • Lower GI endoscopy and sigmoidoscopy (flexible and rigid)
  • 
    
  • Colonoscopy with biopsy and excision of polyp
  • 
    
  • Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS)
  • 
    
  • Liver biopsy
  • 
    
  • Insertion and management of Sengstaken/Blakemore tube

This health system is a comprehensive regional medical center serving East Texas and surrounding communities. The facility operates as a Level 1 trauma center with a Level 2 pediatric designation and supports a robust gastroenterology service line that includes a busy GI lab and clinic environment. The gastroenterology team consists of multiple physicians and midlevel providers, supported by a high-volume hospitalist service that generates significant inpatient GI consultation demand.
