Job Summary

The Department of Pediatrics at Episcopal Health Services (EHS) in Far Rockaway, NY, is seeking a Neonatologist to provide clinical care to infants in our Level II NICU. This position offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of newborns and their families.

Our Level II NICU provides comprehensive care for infants born prematurely (32-35 weeks gestation) or with moderate medical complications. We pride ourselves on a collaborative and supportive work environment.

In New York State, this role operates within the framework of the NYS Department of Health's Perinatal Regionalization System, ensuring care is aligned with the facilitys designated level of care.

Responsibilities

  • Clinical
  • Lead the medical management of infants in a Level II NICU (as defined by NYS DOH standards).
  • Direct neonatal resuscitation in the delivery room and stabilization of high-risk infants for transport if necessary.
  • Perform critical procedures including endotracheal intubation, umbilical line placement, chest tube insertion, and lumbar punctures.
  • Interdisciplinary Leadership
  • Collaborate with nursing staff, respiratory therapists, and pediatric subspecialists.
  • NYS Regulatory & Perinatal Compliance
  • Adhere to NYS Department of Health (DOH) regulations regarding the transfer of high-risk neonates to our Regional Perinatal Center (RPC) when clinical needs exceed the facility's designated level.
  • Ensure strict compliance with mandatory NYS newborn screenings, including blood spots (for over 50 metabolic/genetic disorders), pulse oximetry for Critical Congenital Heart Disease (CCHD), and universal hearing screenings.
  • Documentation, Quality & Safety
  • Assist in the mandatory reporting of neonatal data to the New York State Department of Health and the Vermont Oxford Network (VON).
  • Adhere to NYS Article 28 requirements for infection prevention, specifically regarding CLABSI (Central Line-Associated Bloodstream Infection) reduction in the NICU.
  • Champion communication with families in high-stress environments, adhering to the "Family-Centered Care" model encouraged by NYS quality initiatives.

Requirements

  • Education: MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Training: Completion of a 3-year Pediatrics residency, followed by a 3-year Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine fellowship.
  • Board Status: Board Certified (or board eligible, actively pursuing certification) in Pediatrics, with completion of fellowship training in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine.
  • Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Licensure: Active, unrestricted medical license in the state of New York.
  • Certifications: Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification (essential), S.T.A.B.L.E Certification Preferred.
  • Clinical Skills: Proficiency in managing premature infants >32 weeks gestation, providing intermediate care, ventilation support (non-invasive/brief invasive), and stabilizing infants prior to potential transfer.
