Physician (Psychiatrist) The Veterans Health Administration is seeking a full-time Physician Psychiatrist for the VA Maine Healthcare System in Togus, ME. The Psychiatrist provides outpatient psychiatric care in the Mental Health Clinic, supports VA Maine's broader Mental Health Service, collaborates with interdisciplinary teams, participates in teaching and training activities, and may support tele-mental health, compensation and pension mental health evaluations, and care across VA Maine mental health programs. Support Mental Health Service programs at the Togus campus and Community Based Outpatient Clinics. Provide care within a large outpatient mental health clinic setting. Support services connected to the locked inpatient mental health unit, PTSD program, Addiction Services program, Integrated Primary Care team, Mental Health Intensive Case Management team, and other mental health programs as assigned. Participate in VA Maine's active tele-mental health program. Collaborate with interdisciplinary mental health professionals across VA Maine. Support teaching and training activities involving medical students, psychiatry residents, social workers, interns, Licensed Clinical Professional Counselors, and other trainees. Participate in collaborative research projects as appropriate. Conduct Compensation and Pension mental health evaluations when assigned. Maintain current clinical practice standards and provide psychiatric care consistent with VA policies and requirements. Basic Qualifications: Must be a U.S. Citizen. Non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited in accordance with VA policy. Must be proficient in written and spoken English. Must have a Doctor of Medicine degree or equivalent degree from an approved allopathic or osteopathic medical school. Must have a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia. Must have completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Residency training must generally be ACGME or AOA approved, or otherwise meet VA physician qualification standards. Applicants pending completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Must be subject to background/security investigation. Must pass a pre-employment physical examination. Must pass pre-employment drug testing and remain subject to testing requirements for this testing designated position. Selective Service registration is required for males born after December 31, 1959. Must complete all application requirements and online onboarding requirements. Preferred Experience: Board certification in Psychiatry preferred. Education and Licensure Requirements: Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree in allopathic or osteopathic medicine is required. Medical degree must be from a school accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education or a school of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation, or meet accepted foreign medical graduate requirements. Foreign medical graduates must meet Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates eligibility requirements for the year of graduation, unless otherwise approved under VA policy. Current, full, and unrestricted medical license is required. Residency training must meet VA physician qualification standards. Physical Requirements: Must meet physical requirements under VA Directive and Handbook 5019, Employee Occupational Health Service. Must pass a pre-employment physical examination.
