Duties

Help Interpret full range of general diagnostic imaging modality exams to include MRI, CT, Ultrasound, plain film, fluoroscopy, mammography, and nuclear scintigraphy. Evaluate imaging test results for the purposes of diagnosis, patient care, research, and education. Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team consisting of direct and indirect patient care professionals to include diagnostic imaging staff, x-ray technicians, laboratory staff, and referring clinical team and providers. Oversee the development and evolution of imaging service protocols, technologists service practices, and the interdisciplinary communication, interaction with Clinical Services to achieve best practice standards and patient care. Assist with formulation of plans and procedures for assigned services and coordinate radiological services with other medical activities. Advise on radiological supplies and equipment capability of available resources and the future needs. Provide technical and scientific oversight of scientific staff. Directs supporting employees during the performance of scheduled or emergency care procedures to include biopsies and abscess drainages.

Requirements

Help Conditions of employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination as determined by a completed background investigation. This position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening and random drug testing to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident. This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons; documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire. This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position. This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis. This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations. This position is subject to TDY or business travel requirements to various locations. This may require travel via privately owned vehicles, commercial transport platforms, and/or military aircraft, ships, and vehicles. This position requires that you obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from or in accordance with the American Heart Association and American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS. Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate relevant clinical privileges. This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.

Basic Requirement for Physician Radiology-Diagnostic

  • Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association, Association of American Medical Colleges, Liaison Committee on Medical Education, Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
  • Foreign Education: A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must have provided education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.
  • Licensure: Applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
  • Graduate Training: Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a candidate must have had at least one year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting (i.e., a one-year internship or the first year of a residency program) in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position, you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Residency Training for GP-14 Position Applicants must have successfully completed the required accredited residency training in the specialty of the position to be filled: Interventional Radiology, Diagnostic Radiology, Radiation Oncology, and equivalent experience and training equal to at least 4 years. Experience may not be substituted for residency training that is required for the specialty identified.

  • Salary Note: If you are selected for a Physician position, a salary quote will not be provided to you at the time of the initial job offer. The salary determination process begins after the initial job offer is accepted. This consists of the Activity Compensation Panel adding base pay and market pay to determine your starting salary, and this will be provided to you once approved.

Education (Foreign Education) If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program, or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
