Position Summary

The Surgical Oncologist will deliver comprehensive surgical care for solid tumors, including soft tissue, melanoma, endocrine, and breast cancers (excluding hepatobiliary). Key responsibilities encompass preoperative, operative, and postoperative management, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to achieve outstanding patient outcomes.

Schedule: 40 hours per week, which includes hospital rounds, operating room block time, clinic visits, interdisciplinary case discussions, and participation in tumor boards.
Call: Involvement in after-hours call for patient coverage.
Location: Bend and Redmond hospitals and clinics.

Main Responsibilities

Clinical Duties

  • Assess, diagnose, and surgically treat patients with solid tumors.
  • Order and interpret laboratory tests, imaging, and diagnostic evaluations.
  • Formulate and execute therapeutic plans and perform surgical interventions.
  • Educate patients and families, provide preventive advice, and refer to community resources.
  • Ensure accurate documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR) and maintain continuity of care.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Timely and accurately document patient care in accordance with organizational policies.
  • Engage in physician meetings, contribute to policy development, and pursue continuing medical education (CME) to uphold board certification and privileges.
  • Maintain active hospital privileges, unrestricted licenses, and necessary certifications.

Education and Qualifications

Essential:

  • MD/DO from an accredited medical institution.
  • Completion of a General Surgery residency.
  • Fellowship in Surgical Oncology.
  • Board certification in General Surgery with additional certification in Surgical Oncology.
  • Oregon medical license (or eligibility to obtain one).
  • Active DEA license.

Experience

Preferred: Fellowship-trained Surgical Oncologist.
