THE DEPARTMENT

The Human Resources Department provides the full range of human resources support and services to 24 departments throughout the City. HR's services include labor relations, employee relations, benefits, organizational development, talent acquisition, salary, and classification administration, HRIS administration, oversight of personnel investigations, EEO compliance, occupational health services, risk management, and safety compliance. THE POSITION

The Risk and Occupational Health Services Bureau within the Department of Human Resources is seeking candidates for a full-time Physician Assistant vacancy. This unclassified at-will position reports to the Citys Occupational Health Human Resources Officer at the Occupational Health Services clinic located at Airport Plaza in the City of Long Beach.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

This position will

  • Evaluate and provide medical treatment of work-related illnesses and injuries
  • Perform post-offer/pre-employment physicals for applicants
  • Chart patient transactions in accordance with policies and procedures
  • Obtain detailed medical histories; perform physical examinations
  • Provide written prescription transmittal orders and have advanced knowledge of pharmaceutical indications, contraindications associated with dosing side effects and/or proper administration, interactions, safety and effectiveness
  • Provide annual monitoring based on State and Federal requirements
  • Author policies and protocols as needed
  • Perform other related clinical services and duties as required

REQUIREMENTS TO FILE

EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS

  • A valid Sate of California license as a Physician Assistant from the California Medical Board of Quality Assurance, Physician Assistant Examining Committee
  • Possession of a valid Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers card
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Physician Assistant studies or a closely related field
  • Experience offering specific and substantial preparation for the duties of the position may be substituted for the education on a year-for-year basis.

EXPERIENCE

  • Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in primary care services or public health and/or human services programs

  • A Masters of Science Degree in Physician Assistant studies or a closely related field may be substituted for one year of the required experience

  • One (1) year in a supervisory capacity

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Department of Transportation (DoT) Medical Examiner certification

  • DEA Registration

  • National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistant (NCCPA) certification
