Virginia Cancer Specialists, an affiliate of McKesson Specialty Health and US Oncology, a leader in Cancer care, is seeking a Full Time Physicist Assistant to work with our Radiation team at our Cancer Center in Fairfax, Virginia.
SCOPE: Provides specific functions of a quality assurance program for patient care in cancer treatment which is delivered using radiation equipment and radioactive sources.. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.
Responsibilities:ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Prepares detectors and phantoms for irradiation on therapy machines.
-Performs measurements and provides data for quality assurance of treatment plans.
-Inspects radiotherapy treatment records and calculates dose to organs.
-Inspects or evaluates results of various dosimetry evaluations including TLD, gold foil, etc.
-Monitors performance of radiation producing machines by physical measurement.
-Analyzes data and prepares reports as required.
Qualifications:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in Physics from an accredited four-year college or university. Minimum of two years experience in radiation therapy/dosimetry in lieu of degree in Physics. Valid state license (or eligibility for license) for radiation physics. Must maintain certification and continuing education requirements as outlined by appropriate professional organizations.

Must be able to stand for 8 hours; lift 40-pound block to shoulder level; have sufficient visual acuity to distinguish structures and isodose displays on computer monitor. Additionally, must be able to align treatment field and monitor patient during radiation therapy treatment; have adequate hearing and speaking capabilities to effectively communicate with patients and staff; have adequate mobility to assist patients on and off treatment couch and document treatment.
