Job Overview
The Academic Radiation Physicist plays a crucial role in ensuring high-quality care through the use of radiation sources and imaging technology. This position also involves engaging in academic activities, supporting clinical research protocols, and participating in educational initiatives. The responsibilities will be guided by the Division Chief and local hospital leadership.
Qualifications
- Required:
- A Ph.D. or M.S. in medical physics, physics, or a related discipline is mandatory.
- The ideal candidate must be board certified or eligible, with proven clinical experience in an academic medical environment.
- Board-eligible candidates should be enrolled in or have completed a medical physics residency program.
- Experience ranging from 0 to 10 years post-residency in conventional radiotherapy, 3-D and IMRT treatment planning, and high and low dose rate brachytherapy is essential.
- Knowledge of Linac operations, various special procedures (both external beam and brachytherapy), and a strong commitment to patient care, education, and clinical research are required.
- Preferred:
- Preference will be given to candidates with clinical experience and those who have completed a CAMPEP-accredited residency program.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently are highly desirable.
Schedule Requirements
The primary workplace will be RWJ Hamilton in Hamilton, NJ, with responsibilities extending to other RWJ facilities such as NBI, CMMC, JCMC, HAM, and SOM as necessary.
Essential Functions
- Oversee all aspects of radiation oncology physics, including equipment calibration, clinical support, quality assurance for treatment delivery, and compliance with radiation safety regulations.
- Deliver radiation services that meet the highest standards of professionalism, quality, safety, and efficiency.
- Provide services at various Robert Wood Johnson University Hospitals, including locations in New Brunswick, Hamilton, and Somerset, as well as RWJBH Medical Centers in Jersey City and Clara Maass, and Newark Beth Israel Medical Center.
- Maintain productivity by actively participating in the Division's clinical workload, adhering to established benchmarks set by leadership.
- Contribute to the development of clinical protocols and assist in enrolling patients in clinical trials.
- Engage in teaching activities for medical and physics residents, dosimetry, and therapy students, as well as delivering specialized lectures to attending physicians.
- Participate in faculty, fellow, and staff recruitment efforts.
- Attend mandatory meetings as required by the organization, hospitals, and regulatory bodies.
- Engage in clinical research and fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned by leadership.
