ANNOUNCEMENT OF OPENING PHYSICS FACULTY

The Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science is accepting applications for a faculty position in Physics for the 2026-27 academic year. The successful candidate will be prepared to teach advanced physics courses, including University (dual credit) Physics I & II, Fluids, Thermodynamics, and Optics, Modern Physics, Descriptive Astronomy, and Electricity and Magnetism. Final teaching assignments will depend upon student needs. Because of the unique nature of MSMS and its mission, all faculty and staff members are expected to offer evening tutorials one night a week and to participate in Saturday activities twice a semester. The Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science is a public, residential high school for academically gifted and talented eleventh and twelfth-grade students located on the campus of the Mississippi University for Women in Columbus, Mississippi. The mission is "to enhance the future of Mississippi by providing innovative learning experiences in a residential environment to meet the individual needs of gifted and talented students and by providing quality educational leadership and aggressive outreach programs." All faculty, staff, and students have the responsibility to assist with accomplishing the mission.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  1. Master's Degree or above in related area. A doctorate is preferred.
  2. Teaching experience at the secondary or post-secondary level. A valid Mississippi teaching license is desirable but not required. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
  3. The salary range begins at $61,807-$65,251, depending on credentials.
  4. The position is contracted for 190 days.
  5. Reporting date will be August 3, 2026.
