Job Summary
We are seeking a reliable and safety-focused Pilot Car Driver to assist in the safe transportation of oversize and overweight loads. The Pilot Car Driver will operate an escort vehicle to support heavy haul truck drivers by monitoring road conditions, warning motorists, and ensuring compliance with state permit requirements.
This role is critical in helping oversized loads travel safely and efficiently while maintaining compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Operate an escort vehicle ahead of or behind oversize loads to ensure safe transport.
Communicate with truck drivers via CB radio or other communication devices regarding road conditions, traffic hazards, and clearance issues.
Review and understand load dimensions, route details, and permit requirements before each trip to ensure proper escort support.
Assist drivers as needed during transport to help ensure the load moves safely and efficiently.
Monitor for potential hazards including low bridges, construction zones, narrow roads, and traffic congestion.
Provide advance warning to motorists using oversize load signage, flags, and lighting equipment.
Coordinate with drivers, dispatch, and law enforcement when necessary.
Maintain escort vehicle equipment in compliance with state escort vehicle requirements.
Maintain a high level of professionalism and safety awareness at all times.

Qualifications
Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Previous pilot car or transportation experience preferred.
Ability to read and interpret route surveys, permits, and load information.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Ability to travel and work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
Ability to assist drivers with tasks related to the transport when needed.
Ability to remain alert and attentive while monitoring traffic and road conditions for extended periods.
Ability to install and maintain escort vehicle equipment and safety devices.
