Position Description:
Perform all installation, repair and maintenance work of refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment, including cold rooms and tropic rooms to simulate extreme conditions of cold and heat and other atmospheric conditions for test purposes.
Install and maintain steam and hot water heating systems, high pressure steam line, sprinkler systems and piping systems for air, oil, gas, paint, acids, solvents, etc., including pump and collectors.
Cut threads, bend, file, burr, ream and install pipes, couplings, unions, elbows, flanges, valves, etc.
Work with cast iron, brass, stainless steel, and other types of metal piping, valves, traps and vessels. Use all types of pipe fitters, tools including taps, portable power pipe threaders, gas torches, hacksaws, drills, benders, etc.
Lay out, install and repair all plant plumbing systems, including toilets, showers and drinking fountains, according to underwriters and municipal standards. Locate, diagnose and correct plumbing troubles.
May be required to handle/manage hazardous waste from time to time.
Requirements:
Must have high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
Must have completed an apprenticeship program or have 8 years of documented experience in the trade.
Must have HVAC maintenance / repair experience; HVAC certification preferred.
Must be U. S. citizen.
Must be able to obtain / maintain security clearance.
Use all trade tools and equipment including pipe cutters, threaders, benders, soldering irons, hack saws, blow torches, 'snakes', caulking tools, etc., and work with various types of metallic, vitreous and plastic materials.
Must have ability to read and work from blueprints.
Must be able to successfully complete the pre-employment process including drug screen and background check.
Must obtain Department of Army Police unescorted access.
Must have current state driver's license in order obtain in-plant licenses to operate motorized vehicle including man lifts, forklifts, etc.
Operate crane (up to 50 tons)
Environmental Conditions:
Ability to work in production environment, including:
Climbing stairs, ladders and equipment.
Work from ladders scaffolds or swing stages when necessary.
Lift and carry- minimum of 40#,
Working in inclement weather including extreme heat and cold.
Working in confined spaces.
Working in areas with a high noise volume.
Must be able to wear personal protective clothing and equipment.
Must be able to wear respirator.
Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel and crawl.
Must be able to work aloft- cannot be afraid of heights.
Working in areas with dust and fumes.
Must be able / willing to work any shift as assigned.
Must be able/willing to work overtime as required.
