Piping Designer III

Location: Houston, TX 77002

Job Type: Onsite

Duration: One-year contract

Compensation: $62–$75 per hour (W2 only)

Work Authorization: Not open to C2C, 1099, or H1B candidates

Position Overview

The Piping Designer III is responsible for supporting project design and drafting activities to ensure successful execution of engineering and construction projects. This role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams and stakeholders, as well as a strong understanding of piping systems, drafting standards, and project coordination.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate project design and drafting to support timely and successful completion of project deliverables
  • Assign and manage equipment, instrument, valve tagging, and piping line numbers
  • Prepare and revise drawings, including record drawings and resolving design issues
  • Develop process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), equipment layouts, facility plot plans, and equipment/instrument lists
  • Assist in developing project scopes, engineering/design scopes, and construction scopes of work
  • Participate in project meetings to understand scope requirements and contribute technical expertise
  • Support preparation and review of man-hour estimates and project schedules
  • Coordinate distribution of design packages and ensure effective stakeholder communication
  • Provide drafting and design support for time- and budget-sensitive projects
  • Communicate with vendors regarding material quotes and availability
  • Perform material take-offs and generate parts lists and material requisitions
  • Develop and maintain material data sheets
  • Maintain accurate records of technical documentation and correspondence
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of company standard drawings, specifications, and procedures
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, contractors, inspectors, and procurement teams
  • Assist in resolving design and logistical challenges to ensure project progress
  • Generate Pre-Assessment Letters (PALs) for in-service welds when required
  • Support CADD operations and provide guidance to team members on design tools and processes

Qualifications & Skills

  • Strong experience in piping design and drafting within industrial, plant, or pipeline projects
  • Proficiency in preparing PFDs, P&IDs, and layout drawings
  • Solid understanding of materials, specifications, and design standards
  • Ability to work collaboratively across engineering, procurement, and construction teams
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, project-driven environment
