Piping Designer – Nuclear

Aspen Technical Staffing is seeking an experienced Piping Designer – Nuclear for a contract-to-hire opportunity in Perry, Ohio. This role supports complex power and energy projects with a focus on nuclear facility design, coordination, and high-quality deliverables.


Position Overview

The Piping Designer will be responsible for executing assigned project activities under the direction of the Group Supervisor. This includes coordinating with engineers, designers, drafters, and construction personnel to ensure all design deliverables meet project, client, and regulatory requirements. The role requires strong technical capability, leadership within design teams, and the ability to manage segments of a project from concept through final approval.


Key Responsibilities

  • Implement assignments and activities delegated from the Group Supervisor
  • Execute project objectives in coordination with drafters, designers, engineers, and support staff
  • Support planning, scheduling, quality control, and execution of project deliverables
  • Manage completion of construction drawings, design studies, and bills of materials
  • Schedule work assignments and provide guidance, training, and technical support to designers, checkers, and drafters on small to medium projects
  • Manage a defined segment of a project under supervision of the Group Supervisor
  • Coordinate with client and construction teams to ensure design requirements and feedback are incorporated in accordance with contractual obligations
  • Assist in preparing engineering and construction estimates and supporting documentation
  • Support estimating efforts related to design and drafting requirements
  • Review and provide final approval of drawings to ensure compliance with applicable codes, specifications, and discipline standards
  • Maintain engineering document indices and drafting progress reports
  • Confirm checking and approval of vendor shop drawings
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Associate Degree in Drafting or related technical field (formal drafting coursework required)
  • 10+ years of piping design experience in power, energy, or chemical industry environments
  • Strong understanding of technical disciplines and project execution workflows
  • Proficiency with CAD platforms such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, or Revit (with ability to learn additional tools as needed)
  • Preferred experience with Plant 3D and/or AVEVA E3D
  • Strong background in chemical, refinery, or power generation projects
  • Proven ability to supervise, mentor, and support junior designers and drafters
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and research skills
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and changing requirements
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proficiency in CADWorx, Navisworks, and Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Design, or related field
  • Certification in Design/Drafting or related technical certification
