Piping Designer

Job Summary
The successful candidate will perform non-routine assignments of substantial variety and complexity. Such assignments that are typically parts of broader assignments, are screened to eliminate unusual design problems. Receives technical advice from supervisor or engineer. Work is reviewed for technical adequacy or conformity with instructions. May be assisted by lower-level drafters and have frequent contact with professionals and others within the project.

Job Duties

• Develop or review designs by extracting and analyzing a variety of engineering data, applying conventional engineering practices to develop, prepare, or recommend schematics, designs, specifications, and parts lists.
• Generate complex 2-D drawings or 3-D CAD design models with minimal guidance from others.
• Perform design tasks having some degree of complexity
• Prepare portions of 3-D CAD design model under the supervision of experienced designers.
• Review and check calculations, design models, drawings and design documents prepared by others in the group and by material suppliers, as assigned.
• Prepare bulk material quantity takeoffs and material requisitions for materials applicable to the group.
• Work with engineers and other designers in the overall assignment to coordinate designs.
• Compile, maintain and access job drawing files, records, and drawing controls, as instructed.

• It is a condition of employment to wear company issued PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) in accordance with supervisory direction and company policy.
• Perform other related duties as required.

Basic Qualifications

• Vocational School certification comprising of at least 2 semesters or two years college with drafting courses
• Minimum of six (6) years relevant and progressive exp or equivalent combination of education & progressive and relevant drafting experience.
• Current US citizenship required.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain security clearance and the AEDC local area network.
• Current U. S. Citizenship required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in Process Pipe Design
• Knowledge of ASME B31.3
• Experience with Autodesk software, particularly AutoCAD and Inventor
• Experience with Plant 3D or Piping Software
• Demonstrated ability to coordinate technical issues with engineering staff
• Demonstrated understanding of fabrication and design methods
• Sound knowledge of CAD design and drafting techniques, engineering drawing, graphic arts, reading of drawings and reproduction methods used by the group.
• Basic computer skills such as use of Microsoft Office products, file naming, and computer folder structures.
• Skill in reading, interpreting and using related documents and drawings prepared by other project groups.
• Skill in directing the technical work of less experienced designers and/or drafters.
• Current or prior government security clearance
