POSITION TITLE: PK STEP Teacher- Sgt. Jordan Shay Memorial Lower Elementary School SUPERVISOR: Building Principal COMPENSATION: Initial Rate: $125 per day for the first 20 days. Long-Term Rate: On the 21st day, compensation increases to the Bachelor''s Step 1 salary rate ($58,859.68 annually, prorated), applied retroactively to day one.

Student Profile Students in the STEP program are identified as students with Developmental Delay, Intellectual Impairment, Communication, Autism, or other complex learning needs. Students may have challenges in their academic, language/communication, social, self-help, and behavior skill development. All students require intensive, highly specialized and individualized instruction and support to access learning.

Program Description: STEP is a substantially separate program designed to support PK students with intensive special education needs. Students require a small group learning environment with a low student to staff ratio. Students attend a full school day.

Job Description: Demonstrate a thorough knowledge and competence of subject matter associated with teaching assignment. Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required. Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated. Prepare lessons for all content areas. Integrate technology into lessons to support student achievement. Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning within the limits of the resources provided by the school. Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior. Strive to implement, by instruction and action, the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities. Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, School Committee Policy and administrative regulations. Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations and School Committee policy. Accept a share of responsibility for supervising and monitoring both formal and informal non-classroom activities. Work to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning both the broad academic and behavioral progress of all assigned students. Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops in order to maintain and improve professional competence. Attend staff meetings, and serve on committees as required. Collaborate with other teachers and paraprofessionals as appropriate and necessary.
