Summary:
The Planner I works as part of the Planning and Development Services team to perform complex professional-level work in current and comprehensive planning. We are seeking a creative, highly skilled, and collaborative individual to support the goals and initiatives of the city.
Responsibilities:
Important responsibilities of the Planner I include, but are not limited to:
- Develop and maintain a working knowledge of land development codes and plans that pertain to land use, rezoning, special use, variances, and subdivisions.
- Participate in the review of development proposals and applications for compliance with appropriate regulations and policies; write staff reports; present recommendations to Planning Commission, City Commission, and Board of County Commissioners.
- The Planner I will provide Planner of the Day assistance and respond to general procedural inquiries from the public regarding the development process.
- Conduct research regarding property characteristics and history utilizing a wide variety of data sources.
Qualifications:
- One (1) year professional planning experience in urban planning or a related field is preferred.
- Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree or Master's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in planning, urban design, or a closely related field.
- A comprehensive understanding of good planning theory and design, and the abilities to apply this to both current and long-range goals of the community.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Skilled with Microsoft computer software and able to provide graphs, maps, and publisher-type planning documents.
- Experience in ArcView is desirable.
