Position Specific Summary

The Planner position at the City of Tucson Department of Transportation & Mobility supports the Planning and Programming Division in all aspects of project and program delivery, including public outreach efforts and data analysis, develops and monitors mode-specific and comprehensive transportation plans, leads public programs and coordinates planning efforts across agencies.

Work is performed under the supervision of the Senior Project Manager. This position does not supervise.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supports Project Managers in advancing transportation projects through preliminary design, schedules and prepares for public outreach events, works closely with the Strategic Communications Division to create project-specific communication materials and visualizations, assists with website creation, supports the Project Manager with data analysis, materials review, and research.

  • Leads coordination of the Department of Transportation and Mobility's public programs, including but not limited to Shared Spaces and Bicycle Parking.

  • Supports the delivery of community events, sponsored or supported by the Department of Transportation & Mobility, with partner agencies and organizations. This may include events like Cyclovia Tucson and Parking Day among others.

  • Participates in regional transportation planning efforts on behalf of the Department of Transportation & Mobility. Develops general and/or specific transportation plans. Assists with data analysis, document development and review, consultant management, public outreach and engagement.

  • Preforms other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Bachelor''s degree

Experience

One (1) year of relevant experience

Equivalency

Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

License/Certifications

Preferred Qualifications

Education: Bachelor''s degree in related field

Experience: One (1) year of directly related experience

License/Certification: A valid and unrestricted driver license with two (2) years of licensed driving is required.

Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree Engineering, Planning, or related field.

One (1) year of experience in planning, graphic design, computer applications or related field.

Background in Geographic Information Systems, Story Maps, Experience Builder or other ESRI products.

Background in graphic design, web design and meeting facilitation.

Background in program coordination and building and maintaining public agency partnerships.

Background in facilitating meetings and coordinating with boards or commissions.

Background in public event planning, coordination and delivery.
