Starting salaries generally fall between the minimum and midpoint of the range. Each offer depends on the candidate's experience and qualifications, internal pay equity, and available budget. Salary offers are negotiated individually based on these factors.

SUMMARY OF POSITION

Help shape the future of our community. This leadership position is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the operations, programs, and staff within the Planning Division. You'll lead complex projects, collaborate with community partners, guide long-range planning efforts, and oversee development activities that influence the growth and character of the community. Work is performed under the general direction of the Development Services Director ("supervisor"), with supervision exercised over assigned personnel.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

  • This is a full-time, in-person position with a typical Monday-Friday schedule of 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Flexible scheduling options, including a 9/80 schedule with alternating Fridays off, may be available.

  • This position is open until filled, with first consideration given to those applicants who apply prior to June 17, 2026.

Selection will be based on overall qualifications, skills testing (if applicable), and an interview process. The final candidate selected will be subject to a comprehensive background/reference check commensurate to the position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree with coursework in urban or regional planning, or related field

  • Five (5) years of experience in planning

  • Two (2) years in a supervisory role

Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid driver's license

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Oregon and/or Washington municipal or public sector professional planning experience

  • Knowledge of SEPA, NEPA, basic shoreline management, and Washington state growth management act.

  • Experience presenting to elected officials, boards, or commissions

  • AICP Certification
