ASSISTANT CONTROLLER JOB DESCRIPTION


Job Summary
The Plant Controller is a key role that supports the accounting and financial reporting functions for the business. This position will support the day-to-day operations of the WOC accounting and reporting activities to include compliance, financial analysis, inventory management and costing, and financial reporting. The role will provide demonstrated analytical and financial modelling skills, with the ability to translate complex situations into information that will support the profitability and growth of the business.
The Plant Controller will also be part of a team that creates and implements policies and procedures to identify, resolve and document accounting issues, in addition to creating procedures to make the reporting process more efficient and accurate. They will assist with the development and enforcement of internal controls to maximize protection of company assets, policies, procedures, and workflow. The Assistant Controller is also vital to the development and tracking of Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) and related operational analysis and other areas as required.
Education and Experience:
•3+ years of accounting experience in a manufacturing environment
•Bachelor's degree in accounting
•Professional certification preferred, CPA or CMA
•Must have a strong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and cost accounting
•JD Edwards ERP experience preferred
•Experience with large multi-site operations
•Proficient in use of Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel, including macros, advanced formulas, and data analysis
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Teamwork

Financial Reporting
•Provide financial support to business leaders
•Proactively conduct variance analysis as required
•Review and analyze internal financial data to identify issues, opportunities and trends to provide business leaders with financial analysis input that will drive decision making including project profitability, productivity analysis, and return on investment
•Assist with establishing and maintaining accounting policies and system of internal controls to ensure the integrity of financial and accounting information, promote accountability and safeguard company assets
Cost Accounting
•Assist in determining capitalized overhead rates
•Oversight of new product costing and standard cost updates
•Ensure manufacturing costs are being accurately captured by production line and work orders
•Implement a system for regular product cost review
Inventory Management
•Analyze work order variances and inventory adjustments
•Evaluate and maintain accurate standard costs
•Analyze and reconcile inventory, to include Flush and Pour Up tracking
•Assist with plant cycle counts and physical inventory counts and variance analysis
