Plant Engineer – Controls (Contract)

Overview

We are seeking a Plant Engineer – Controls to support a high-volume automotive manufacturing facility. This role is responsible for improving control systems, troubleshooting equipment issues, and supporting automation and plant operations.


Details

  • Location: Sterling Heights, MI (Onsite)
  • Shift: 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM
  • Pay Rate: $41.60/hr with benefits 

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement improvements to control systems using Factory Information Systems (FIS) data
  • Lead troubleshooting and problem-solving to resolve equipment performance issues
  • Coordinate resources to identify root cause and implement corrective actions
  • Troubleshoot machinery, robotics, automation, and control systems to minimize downtime
  • Monitor cycle times using FIS plant systems
  • Program and reprogram PLCs, automation equipment, and robotics for engineering changes
  • Support installation and commissioning of new equipment and automation systems
  • Maintain backups for machinery and automation programs
  • Assist with integration of controls into FIS, Error Proofing, QWX, IIoT, and QTS systems
  • Train manufacturing personnel and plant electricians
  • Participate in safety reviews and risk assessments

Required / Preferred Qualifications

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 5+ years of controls or related manufacturing experience
  • PLC experience (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Rexroth)
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with error proofing and Good Manufacturing Practices
  • Ability to work with maintenance teams, vendors, and production staff
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
  • Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma experience
  • Familiarity with UL508A and NFPA79 standards
  • Siemens Step 7 and TIA Portal experience
  • Robotics, automation, and machining controls experience
  • Electrical systems knowledge
