Plant Engineer / Continuous Improvement (CI) Manager

Location: Blacksburg, VA

Reports To: Plant Manager

Position Summary

The Plant Engineer / Continuous Improvement (CI) Manager leads engineering and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety, quality, cost, and delivery performance. This role combines hands-on engineering ownership with CI leadership to drive operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead CI strategy using Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, 5S, and SMED methodologies
  • Manage capital projects from concept through commissioning
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production and equipment issues
  • Develop preventive and predictive maintenance programs
  • Conduct RCA, 8D, FMEA and implement corrective actions
  • Develop standard work, visual controls, and performance metrics
  • Lead cross-functional teams and train CI methodologies
  • Manage engineering documentation and change control
  • Ensure EHS and company compliance
  • Prepare CAPEX, budgets, and project timelines

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field (Master's preferred)
  • 5+ years in manufacturing/CI roles; leadership experience preferred
  • Lean/Six Sigma experience (Green/Black Belt preferred)
  • Knowledge of PLCs, hydraulics, manufacturing processes
  • Experience managing capital projects and vendors
  • Proficiency in Excel, Minitab, CAD, CMMS
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
