Job Summary


The Plant Industrial Maintenance Mechanic supports safe, reliable production by installing, maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting industrial machinery, molds, dies, tooling, and related plant equipment used to manufacture food-grade aluminum containers. The mechanic responds to equipment failures, completes preventive maintenance, supports mold and tooling changeovers, and works closely with Production and Quality to reduce downtime and maintain product quality.


Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain production machinery, presses, forming equipment, conveyors, pneumatic systems, hydraulic systems, motors, pumps, gearboxes, bearings, and other plant equipment.
  • Install, remove, change, and properly secure molds, dies, tooling, and related machine components in accordance with approved procedures and production schedules.
  • Perform mold and tooling setups, alignments, adjustments, trial runs, and startups to confirm safe operation and acceptable product quality.
  • Diagnose mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, and process-related equipment problems; complete repairs or escalate specialized work when necessary.
  • Inspect molds, dies, and tooling for wear, buildup, damage, misalignment, or other conditions that may affect safety, uptime, or finished-product quality.
  • Perform routine cleaning, lubrication, preventive maintenance, and minor repairs on molds, tooling, machines, and auxiliary equipment.
  • Respond promptly to breakdowns and production calls, identify root causes, restore equipment safely, and communicate equipment status to affected departments.
  • Complete scheduled preventive and predictive maintenance work orders accurately and on time.
  • Verify that guards, safety devices, interlocks, emergency stops, and related controls are functioning before equipment is returned to service.
  • Assist with new equipment installation, commissioning, modification, relocation, and continuous-improvement projects.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, measuring instruments, diagnostic equipment, welding or fabrication equipment, and material-handling equipment safely and correctly.
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, inspections, parts used, mold changes, downtime, and preventive maintenance activities.
  • Maintain an orderly maintenance area and protect tools, spare parts, manuals, and equipment from damage or contamination.
  • Support spare-parts inventory control by identifying required parts and communicating low-stock or critical-part needs to management.
  • Coordinate with Production, Quality, Warehouse, and management personnel to schedule work, resolve recurring issues, and improve equipment performance.
  • Follow all Company safety, food-safety, Good Manufacturing Practices, sanitation, quality, environmental, and security requirements.
  • Perform other maintenance and plant-support duties as assigned, consistent with the position's responsibilities and the employee's training.

Required Qualifications


  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least three years of industrial maintenance, manufacturing maintenance, mold or die setup, or closely related mechanical experience; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical equipment; working knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
  • Ability to read equipment manuals, work orders, preventive maintenance instructions, diagrams, blueprints, and basic electrical schematics.
  • Ability to use precision measuring tools and safely operate common maintenance tools and equipment.
  • Basic computer skills for work orders, maintenance records, email, and parts documentation.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, work independently, prioritize urgent repairs, and collaborate effectively with production and quality personnel.
  • Ability to work the assigned schedule and respond to overtime, weekend, holiday, or emergency maintenance needs when business conditions require.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Technical diploma, apprenticeship, or certification in industrial maintenance, mechatronics, electrical systems, machining, welding, or a related field.Experience with presses, molds, dies, tooling, conveyors, packaging machinery, or high-speed manufacturing equipment.
  • Experience in food-contact packaging, food manufacturing, or another regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of programmable logic controllers, variable-frequency drives, sensors, motors, and industrial electrical troubleshooting.
  • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems and preventive maintenance programs.
  • Forklift, aerial-lift, welding, or lockout tagout training, as applicable.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities


  • Strong mechanical aptitude, practical problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to identify unsafe conditions and stop work when equipment or work practices create an immediate hazard.
  • Ability to distinguish normal equipment operation from conditions requiring adjustment, repair, or escalation.
  • Ability to follow written procedures and maintain accurate, legible records.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, reliability, teamwork, and protection of food-contact products from contamination.

  • Regularly stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, reach, push, pull, and work in and around industrial equipment.
  • Regularly use hands and fingers to handle tools, parts, controls, and precision instruments.
  • Lift and carry up to 50 pounds independently; use approved lifting equipment or team assistance for heavier or awkward items.
  • Work from ladders, platforms, or lifts and occasionally work in confined or restricted equipment areas when trained and authorized.
  • Maintain sufficient close, distance, color, depth, and peripheral vision to inspect equipment, read instruments, and work safely.
  • Hear alarms, equipment changes, radio communications, and verbal instructions in a manufacturing environment, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Work Environment


  • Work is primarily performed in an active manufacturing facility with moving mechanical equipment, sharp edges, oils or lubricants, airborne particles, and varying temperatures.
  • Noise levels may be high. Required personal protective equipment may include safety glasses, hearing protection, safety footwear, gloves, and other task-specific protection.
  • The position may involve exposure to energized systems, hot surfaces, elevated work areas, and maintenance chemicals. Employees must follow lockout tagout and all applicable safe-work procedures.

Safety Quality and Food Safety Responsibilities


  • Follow lockout tagout, machine-guarding, electrical-safety, confined-space, hot-work, fall-protection, and other applicable safety procedures.
  • Use only tools and equipment for which the employee has been trained and authorized.
  • Prevent contamination by controlling tools, parts, lubricants, debris, and maintenance materials during work in production areas.
  • Report injuries, near misses, equipment hazards, contamination risks, and product-quality concerns immediately.
  • Do not return equipment to production until repairs are complete, guards and safety devices are restored, and the equipment has been safely tested and released in accordance with Company procedures.
