Smiths Interconnect, a Molex company, is seeking a Plant Manager responsible for planning, directing, and overseeing all manufacturing activities at the Salisbury, Maryland facility. This role ensures product quality standards are met, manufacturing schedules are achieved, and continuous process improvements and cost objectives are realized.

What You Will Do

  • Lead and drive a Safety and Quality culture enabling the site to be fully compliant to all required Safety & Quality accreditation standards customer requirements
  • Develop and implement organizational structure to meet site operations objectives.
  • Drive Safety, Cost, Quality, Service & Delivery performance
  • Deliver site targets relating to HSE & S / Business continuity
  • Support site Quality improvements and audits enabling the Quality objectives for the site to be met.
  • Control and deliver performance across all site processes that lead to positive indicators reflected on the Global Operations scorecards.
  • Coordinate the establishment of site objectives, track and publish results.
  • Complete performance trackers & site scorecards
  • Lead site employee engagement in line with our Smiths Values
  • Develop the site team through individual development plans / coaching sessions to meet expectations
  • Manage the site budgets and costs demonstrating control to drive favorable site financial results
  • Drive improved productivity with targeted cost improvement initiatives that deliver year over year cost reductions and supports future growth.
  • Lead capital investments for the site actively focused on building in process capability of our manufacturing processes.
  • Drive asset utilization programmes focusing on shift patterns, staff deployment and work center utilization.
  • Manage inventory plans and improve inventory turns (Quarterly) while maintaining material continuity of supply to enable customer requirements to be met
  • Deliver VAVE programmes that provide a year over year reduction in site costs
  • Manage site processes to minimize overdue customer orders (internal & external) and provide on time delivery to our customers
  • Drive a continuous improvement culture - promoting a 'standardized visual factory' to act as our customer showroom. Implement improvements that reduce our total supply lead times to our customers.
  • Organize and lead regular site management leadership team meetings and team briefs
  • Communicate and disseminate all Smiths Group and Smiths Interconnect organizational announcements, policy changes, etc.
  • Champion & implement Smiths Interconnect 'best practices' into assigned facility
  • Keep offsite management informed of the performance of local groups, the site, site emergencies and any other site-based activity that may have a greater

Operations

  • Plan and direct operations team to meet organizational objectives.
  • Develop short and medium term targets for the site against the three key areas of Quality, Cost and Delivery.
  • In collaboration with finance, develop manufacturing schedules and ensure sufficient capital and human resources are available.
  • Work with Supervisors to coordinate scheduling and plan daily activities.
  • Resolve problems such as parts shortages, production issues, and specifications.
  • Initiate and provide engineering review for process improvement and equipment upgrade programs. Evaluate results against consistently updated targets.
  • Analyze cost variances and initiate corrective action as needed.
  • Manage the selection, training and development, appraisal, and feedback processes within the department to ensure optimal recruiting, selection, motivation, and retention of employees.
  • Evaluate performance of direct reports and review performance appraisals for all indirect reports.
  • Approve all personnel actions.
  • Assure that facilities and all employees comply with all regulatory requirements.
  • Using engineering expertise, oversee the introduction of new products and processes into manufacturing to ensure necessary evaluation and coordination of efforts.
  • Deliver site KPIs, continuous improvement Programmes, and site/business financial targets.
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with all security protocols and procedures on the site.
  • Lead &/or assist in negotiating and managing relationship with employees.

Corporate

  • Partner with other departments including Human Resources, Quality and Finance to ensure compliance with Group policy and procedural requirements and dissemination of information to the various groups on site which is received from Division or Corporate, as needed.
  • Understand and implement applicable Smiths Interconnect and Smiths Group HSE requirements that are applicable to the site operation.
  • Chair Site-level Quality System Management Reviews and ensure that appropriate management oversight processes take place and are effective in achieving their intended purpose, with escalation of problems and delays that are not resolved within reasonable or agreed time periods.
  • Approve QMS/EMS documents in accordance with Site document control procedures.
  • Host visitors to the site and provide an overview of the site when needed
  • Coordinate the establishment of site environmental objectives, track and publish results.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Broad knowledge of manufacturing processes, products, equipment and procedures.
  • Graduate caliber preferably in an Engineering or Science related subject.
  • Proven knowledge and understanding of business financial analysis tools and processes.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable Quality accreditations, auditing & customer/ regulatory requirements and their application in the site environment.
  • Proven problem-solving ability to resolve technical issues as well as employee and departmental and inter-departmental issues.
  • Demonstrated high levels of verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Effective leadership skills to provide overall direction to site team.
  • Confirmed planning skills to coordinate manufacturing work centres and schedules.
  • Demonstrated HR management skills including the ability to manage the selection, training and development, appraisal, and feedback of employees
  • Ability to prioritize and effectively handle several assignments/problem situations/ projects.
  • Ability to work effectively independently, as a team member, and as a team leader.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Effective at building, structuring and leading global teams potentially comprised of both direct reports and cross-functional resources.
  • Ability to develop and present business results to all top management of Smiths Interconnect as well as to clients and customers.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills
  • Proven ability to coach and mentor others
  • Understanding what world class execution requires
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate improvements in manufacturing processes.
